One of the most important milestones in the history of human evolution, it is said, was when the human being was able to discover fire. Thousands upon thousands of years ago the benefits of flames were discovered. Not only did it serve to cook food that before would have to be eaten raw, but it helped them to warm up from the cold winter or even to make weapons that, on the one hand, allowed them to advance in hunting and, on the other, in waging war against their peers. It also served to protect itself from ferocious animals. The fire allowed, in part, that our ancestors could stop being nomads, that is, go from one place to another, and stay in the same place, establishing themselves in clans that would be the germ of later societies. Such is the importance of fire, from then until today.
Fire is heat and heat is associated with burning, with desire. A hot body is an excited body, eager for its fire to be quenched, and it will only be with another body that has the same heat. The idea of hot is even associated with the way of being of a certain town. For example, Latinos are said to be warm-blooded, which may have to do with being open, welcoming and, of course, also with their rhythm, the Latin rhythm.
The fire, then, is everywhere and, although it causes us respect, it is also common for us to empathize with those who associate. Many people were captivated by Katniss Everdeen in “The Hunger Games”, the Suzanne Collins trilogy that was also made into a movie. Katniss, the protagonist, was The Girl on Fire. If fire doesn’t kill you, it makes you stronger. The flames, in addition, devour almost everything, which also has its meaning: throwing everything we want to forget, everything that does not suit us, that hurts us in life.
All this and much more is what is taken into account when getting a tattoo of fire, flames or bonfires. Usually, they are represented in warm colors, of course, oranges, reds and yellows, with uneven shapes and curves that rise, like flames. These shapes can acquire concrete silhouettes, such as spirits, that represent specific motifs, for example, soldiers.
Also, the flames they are usually accompanied by something, something they surround and that either resists or dies. We give you as examples the phoenix, which resists, or money, which burns, demonstrating how ephemeral it can be, or that it burns like everything that is not important in life. A classic is also to represent it with the mythological animal of fire par excellence, the dragon, which is either born coiled from a campfire, or expels flames through its mouth, giving it a fierce appearance.
Fire has, as we have seen, purifying capacities. You can see for yourself by going through the studio.
